Lari Member of Parliament (MP) Mburu Kahangara has asked the county government of Kiambu to take action against lazy and incompetent contractors.
Speaking when he joined Kijabe residents in demonstrating over the poor state of the Gicheingo-Kijabe road on Saturday, the MP said that contractors working on the road had taken long to complete it.
The MP said that the Sh240 million road was supposed to be completed in December last year.
He said that residents and business people were being inconvenienced by the poor road that connects the area to Kijabe Mission Hospital.
“The Kiambu government should now crack the whip on lazy and incompetent contractors to ensure that projects are completed on time,” he said.
Kahangara said that the delay in repairing the road has caused pain to residents and business people.
The residents protested over the poor road urging the county government to ensure its repaired immediately.
According to Kahangara Sh240 million was paid to the contractors for expansion and repair of the road in August last year.
Bodaboda and taxi operators in the area last month complained over the state of the road saying cases of pregnant women giving birth in their vehicles were common as a result of the poor roads.
Speaking last month when she inspected ongoing road repairs in Ruiru, Kiambu County Roads and Transport CeC Njeri Gatabaki stated that all roads repairs will be done before the end of the year.
The Roads executive noted that road repairs and renovations had been halted following El nino rains that were experienced last year.
