Residents of Kalama ward in Machakos sub-county, Machakos county have asked the county government of Machakos under the ministry of water to ensure that water from Kyandili dam which was dug in Kyandili secondary school is supplied to the neighbouring areas in the ward.
Led by a former councillor Paul Nyanzi the residents said that the dam holds a lot of water which could benefit residents from Katulani, Kisesini and Mumbuni primary school and the county government should embark on a programme on how the water will be supplied to the people.
He said that the water should be piped and electricity provided to pump the water to different areas and solve water shortage in the areas.
He also asked the to repair the dams in the ward that had burst their banks due to the heavy El nino rains as soon as possible before April rains approach.
"There are several dams that burst their banks during the heavy rains and so the government should repair them before the April rainy season approaches," said Nyanzi.
He also noted that lack of security lights in Kalama market has contributed to the insecurity in the area where he asked the county government to look into the matter.
