Speaking during a press conference at Reformed Church on Tuesday, the chairman of the council James Lukwo said they will meet all Kalenjin leaders to urge them to speak with one voice and avoid divisive statements.

"As a way forward in our community and to solidify our unity, the elders seek to meet with the clergy from the community, the deputy president (William Ruto) and all our elected leaders in a move to unite Kalenjins," he said.

He said the Kalenjin community cannot be divided by differences between political leaders who have different political persuasions for their own interests.

"The interest of the community must be put first before any other interest, and we will not allow any external forces to come and divide us. We will ensure that all leaders are united and speak with one voice for the benefit of its citizens," he said.

He urged Kalenjins to shun leaders whose aim is to divide them along political and ethnic affiliations.

There have been a war of words in the recent past between two camps campaigning for Kericho Senatorial by-election aspirants, creating a rift between Kalenjin leaders.
