A leading academician and Borabu constituency aspirant Dr Nyandoro Kambi has yet again slammed the government for the continued stay of the country’s defense forces in war-torn Somalia.
This comes just days after several KDF forces were reportedly ambushed by killed by al Shabaab militia in Somalia, a terrorist group which has also been linked to a series of attacks in Kenya.
And on Sunday, Kambi urged the government to withdraw its forces unconditionally from the Horn of Africa nation and station them along the country’s borders.
“I first want to laud the gallant soldiers who stood for the country and were killed by the al Shabaab. They are our heroes and I want to join Kenyans in mourning with their families. I think time has come for the government to take that difficult decision of withdrawing our soldiers from Somalia for the safety of every Kenyan,” he said.
Kambi said withdrawing the forces would not be a sign of weakness, and challenged the government to invest more in defending Kenyan borders.
“Withdrawing forces doesn’t mean that we are defeated in the war. We managed to flash the terror group out of their stronghold in Kismayu and I think Somalia forces should take charge. Let our soldiers come home and guard our porous border in the North Eastern. After all it’s always dangerous for a neighboring country to contribute peace mission forces and that is known,” he said.
He urged leaders from either side of the political divide to work as a team on security matters and desist from politicising the matter.
