Kamenu MCA Mary Hussein on Friday led residents in an exercise to clean up Makongeni and Kisii estates.
The clean up entailed bush clearing, unblocking sewer lines and collection of littered garbage.
"We have been able to do a lot today but we expect even to do more tomorrow (Saturday) as we anticipate to have more people being a weekend," said Hussein.
She said such clean-ups should be conducted more often saying residents had taken them positively and had come out in numbers on Friday.
"As I keep on telling residents, it is our decision to either stay in a clean or dirty environment. But residents here are all in agreement that we need a clean environment and that is why they came out today and will come out tomorrow," she added.
The MCA also took the time to announce that a similar exercise will be replicated in Kiganjo and Kian'gombe next week on Friday and Saturday.
"We want to ensure that we have our Christmas in a clean environment and that is why next weekend we extend the excercise to Kiganjo and Kiang'ombe estates with the remaining estates following suit," the ward rep said.
The Makongeni and Kisii estates exercise will continue on Saturday.
