Chiefs in Kamwangi have been urged to sustain the fight against outlawed liquors in an effort to save lives and the next generation.
Gatundu North sub-county commissioner Daniel Nyamiti on Saturday expressed concern over the resurgence of the illegal trade that has so far claimed four lives since the fight started.
Speaking at Kamwangi during an impromptu meeting with area chiefs and their assistants, Nyamiti advised the administrators to take stern action on suspected manufacturers and brewers of such brews.
He reminded the chiefs of their mandate to oversee activities happening in their areas citing that the recent arrest of brewers proved existence of the illicit business.
“You all know your responsibilities, supervising your areas of jurisdiction and collectively making wise decisions on tackling social issues affecting your residents. You have to wake up and work. We cannot allow deaths while you are working,” Nyamiti told the chiefs.
“Residents do a noble thing by providing the police with information about the manufacturers. You also need note what is happening around you,” he told one of the administrators at the meeting.
Nyamiti further urged nyumba kumi officials to liaise with religious leaders in fighting the illegal trade.
He told the chiefs to rally their residents who have attained 18 years and above and do not have national identity cards to apply for the document.
