Residents of Kamwangi town have been urged to stop spreading stigma against patients suffering from Tuberculosis.

Speaking from Kamwangi dispensary on Friday, Ruth Wairimu, a nurse noted that cases of discrimination towards TB patients were real in the region and blamed it on the lack of proper information about the disease.

"TB patients need love and care and ostracizing them only works towards worsening their conditions," she said.

According to Wairimu, the county government of Kiambu has made notable steps in detecting and treating the disease which has led to the reduction of reported TB cases in the area rescuing lives.

"This is as a result of effective community strategy that operates in the villages whose core mandate is to detect and recommend TB patients for treatment. Hundreds of potential TB patients have been taken to diagnostic centers and placed on treatment," she observed.

The nurse noted that community participation was paramount towards eradication of the disease.

"Failure by people infected with the disease to adhere to the treatment schedule poses a threat to thousands of residents. Residents of persons affected with this disease should exercise more surveillance on the disease," she warned.

She disclosed that the region had detected four patients suffering from multi-drug resistance which she said is one of the most virulent strains of TB that is very difficult to treat.

She lauded the county government efforts of improving health care solutions in the county.
