Residents of Kanyonyo in Lower Yatta sub county in Machakos county have been advised to ensure that they have clean toilets to use.
Speaking in Kanyonyo, the area chief Abednego Munguti said that many people in the area don't have toilets therefore are forced to use the bushes. Munguti said that during this rainy season the people may get waterborne diseases due to the waste being carried to water sources.
"It is a shame that many households don't have a toilet; i would like to advise them to build latrines to ensure that hygiene is maintained," said Munguti.
"People using bushes instead of latrines pose a risk to human health mostly during this rainy season as the rain carries the waste to water sources like wells and rivers where waterborne diseases may be contracted," he said.
The chief warned the residents that any household that will be found without a toilet will be arrested.
