Parents have been cautioned against purchasing fake books from stationary shops.
Kenya Booksellers Association (KBSA) raised the warning on Wednesday over the mass sale of books not approved by the Kenya Institute of Education.
South Nyanza KBSA Chairman Mark Kajwang said some school heads purchase such books from suppliers, who, as indicated by him, are operators advancing uncertified material.
Mr Kajwang further said deceitful head teachers had framed cartels that offer fake school course books to their schools.
"It is against regulations for head educators to purchase textbooks from merchants who are not registered and whose instructive materials have not been authenticated," he cautioned as he spoke to this reporter.
Kajwang said most books being sold along the roads were fake.
A year ago, KBSA held consultative meetings to address the matter in South Nyanza to address the matter.
Homa Bay County Director of Education Steve Barongo and his Migori counterpart Beatrice Atsiago said their workplaces would cooperate with publishers and book shops to distinguish errant educators.
