Maseno locals have been advised to keep warm during this rainy season so as to avert any cases of cold related diseases.
Speaking to a group of writers from the region in Maseno, George Adhiambo, a Maseno health officer has cautioned the residents to keep warm through the season saying that cases of pneumonia and common cold have been on the rise.
“Parents should take responsibility and take good care of their children. They should not be allowed to play in stagnant water lest they contract water-borne diseases such as cholera or flu,” said Adhiambo.
He also cautioned residents to make use of mosquito nets appropriately citing that some have neglected their use.
“One should ensure that he or she sleeps under a treated mosquito net. This reduces the chances of being bitten by the mosquitoes which may transmit malaria,” he said.
He added that bodaboda operators are at greater risk of contracting diseases associated with cold and so he advised them to dress warmly and make sure their heads and knees are covered.
“Boda boda operators should not ride until late at night especially when it is raining. Stay healthy, put on sufficient protective gears and ensure your chests are covered,” he added.
