Students from Kenyatta University have beaten 40 teams to emerge winners of the Kenyan chapter of the Global Management Challenge (GMC).

The five young men and women will now represent the country at the GMC International Finals which will be held in April, in Macau, The People’s Republic of China.

The final stage of the national competition had a total of eight teams compete to represent Kenya in China.

This included teams from: Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology, the Kenya College of Accountancy, Strathmore University, the United States International University, Kenyatta University as well as Lapid Leaders Africa.

They will face top participants from other countries for the GMC World Title.

GMC is the world's largest management & strategy competition and has been running since 1980.

It is currently present in 35 countries worldwide and has more than 500,000 university students and company managers participating globally.

The GMC is in its second edition in Kenya.

Participants use an online tool to manage and grow virtual businesses, making decisions about: dividend pay outs, debt, cash flow management, capital investment, operations, marketing, and resourcing.

They are all evaluated on their business’s performance.

“The Global Management Challenge (GMC) Kenya continues to attract a high calibre of participants, and this year proved an especially close competition. With every edition that passes, we are seeing an increased appetite from young people from diverse academic and commercial backgrounds, who are interested in exploring different learning opportunities and challenges,” Asim Shah, founder of the Kenyan chapter of the Global Management Challenge said.

The second edition of the GMC brought together teams from various Kenyan universities and workplaces including University of Nairobi, Strathmore University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology, Kenyatta University, Egerton University, Daystar University, Oshwal College, Pan Africa Christian University and Kabarak University.

The third edition of the GMC will kick off in August 2016.
