President Uhuru Kenyatta’s popularity among Kenyans has dropped significantly according to a recent survey released by Info-track on Sunday.

According to the survey, President Kenyatta’s popularity has dropped from 59 per cent last year to 39 per cent.

The survey shows that the popularity of Coalition for Reform and Democracy (Cord) leader Raila Odinga has risen to 28.7 per cent from 13 per cent last year.

It attributes Kenyatta’s drop in popularity to alleged corruption scandals in government. The survey, however, shows that Jubilee still maintains a large following among Kenyans with 37 per cent of national support compared to Cords 32 per cent.

The survey further indicates that Kenyans are concerned with rising graft in government with 59 per cent calling for prosecution of suspects linked to corruption.

According to Info-track Managing Director (MD) Angela Ambitho, the study was conducted between November 6 and 9.

Ambitho in a statement to the media said that 1,000 people were interviewed in the study.

A section of Ruaka residents have raised mixed reactions in relation to the survey.

Reacting to the survey, Sheila Mueni, a social worker at Ruaka Town supported the study findings saying that they (findings) reflect what is happening.

She said that corruption is to blame for Kenyatta’s drop in popularity. “It can be true that many Kenyans are losing faith in President Uhuru Kenyatta and his government,” she said, adding that corruption and high cost of living could be the reasons.

However, Kimani Mugure, a teacher at a local private school in Ruaka termed Info-track’s survey as misleading. He said that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s support among Kenyans is still strong.

Mugure alleged that some people could be using poll companies to gain support and free publicity.
