Kiambu county government has set aside Sh24 million to light Kamwangi and Kanyoni towns to improve security in the two towns.

Revealing the huge project from her Kamwangi office on Wednesday 18th November 2015,

Gatundu North sub county development and operations deputy coordinator Ms Ann Mumbi said that the money was approved last week after being budgeted for in the 2015/2016 financial year.

“We have received Sh24 million courtesy of Kiambu county government for lighting Kamwangi town in an effort to reduce night insecurity,’ she said on Wednesday.

“Since we have the funds already and have assigned the project of installation to James and John contractors, we expect it to be complete in the next five months,” she added.

Mumbi said Kamwangi would receive a total of 17 floodlights in six sites while Kanyoni would get three.

The deputy director noted that the project would further cost the county Sh600,000 per month in electricity bill.

Mumbi urged James and John contractors to employ local residents in the project adding that skilled youths should benefit in the operations.

She further noted that the contractor would oversee the implementation of the project and survey its progress for a period of one year.

“We have agreed with the contractor to monitor the implementation and progress of the light project in a period of one year as well as employ competent youths within Kamwangi,” she added.

The project comes a few days after Gatundu North sub county commissioner vowed to tear insecurity in the area.
