Kiambu County government has moved to repair and install new street lights along Thika streets.

This is in a move to curb the rising insecurity.

According to Thika sub-county administrator Mariam Chemoso, the government has given the tender to Match Electricals Limited, a contractor based in Thika.

Chemoso said that the street lighting is aimed at ensuring the residents of Thika town, Section 2, section 9, Majengo and the traders operating along the streets of Thika CBD at night have tight security and enough lighting during their operations.

“The residents of these areas have been calling on us to install the lights and repair the ones that used to be there and were vandalised and we moved to speed for the same so as to secure the people during the festive season,” she said.

Speaking when she inspected progress of the project, the administrator said that she expects the work to be done within three weeks so as the residents could enjoy a secure festive season saying that the lights will start working effectively immediately.

Chemoso said the improved lighting will not only boost security, but also spur the economic growth and asked the residents to guard the street lighting project by preventing and reporting vandalism.

She revealed that flood lights have already been procured after she made a request to the county chief that Thika needs more lighting at night.
