Kiambu County residents have been warned against publishing unverified information about the county's security in online platforms.
Speaking to the press from his office on Wednesday, Kiambu County Commissioner Esther Maina said that publication of such material is not only illegal but amounts to frustrating efforts put in place by security agents to enhance peace and order.
She said reports reportedly doing rounds on social media portraying the county as insecure were inaccurate and assured residents that Kiambu is peaceful and security agents are alert to avert any threat.
Maina urged the public to ignore such rumors and warned those out to instill fear in the public that they will be met the full force of the law.
“It has come to our attention that there are people publishing unconfirmed reports highlighting loopholes in security within Kiambu county. I want to be categorical that our county is secure and we won't allow anybody to recklessly publish information touching on security without confirming from the relevant authority,” she said.
He urged members of the public having information on security scares to share it with relevant agents for appropriate action to be taken.
“Rather than post such information on social media which will cause unnecessary panic and tension you would rather share it with the police for appropriate action,” said Maina.
