The government will soon train supervisors who will be in charge of probationers in the 12 Kiambu sub-counties, the county probation officer Denis Mbetera has said.

He said that though probationers were offenders, their human rights must be upheld by those who supervise them as they carry out community services.

Mr Mbetero said that some supervisors like assistant chiefs and heads of public institution where probationers are deployed at times disregarded their fundamental human rights.

The officer was speaking on Monday during the open day for probation department in Ruiru probation hall where over 50 probationers on community service attended.

The function was also attended by Thika senior resident magistrate Justin Onyiego, the Ruiru probation officer Mr Charles Muthoka among other government officials.

Mr Muthoka said that the function was organised to enhance relationship between probationers and the function of his office in an open forum.

He appealed to probationers to desist from engaging in crime after completion of their terms while doing community work.

He further called upon the community to respect the fact that the criminals can transform and desist from heir old ways and thus urged them to accept them back in the society once they complete their jail terms.
