Kiambu women have been encouraged to seek elective positions in the forthcoming 2017 general elections.

Speaking when disbursing funds to women in Limuru on Monday, Kiambu County Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO) Margaret Wambui Kaba said that women have a chance to venture into active politics.

She urged women not to shy away from seeking elective positions stating that it is the only way they will be able to have their rights and issues addressed.

“We are heading to the general elections and my appeal is to women to come out and seek elective positions,” she said.

Kaba said that the constitution agitates for equal representation adding that women should use the opportunity to advance their ideologies.

She added that women play an important role in development and that they will agents of change if they venture into leadership.

At the same time, the Kiambu MYWO urged women to stand firm and fight for their rights. She alleged attempts by some people to frustrate women who are in leadership.

Kaba at the same time called on women to register as voters in the ongoing exercise. She observed most women fail to register as voters adding that this time every woman has to take a voters card and vote in the 2017 polls.

She said that good leaders will be elected only if Kenyans register as voters and take part in the election process.
