Hawkers in Kibera are making profits from their daily sales this holiday due to the increased number of customers.
Some of the hawkers who spoke to this Hivisasa writer this morning at Laini Saba market area said that throughout the December holidays, they normally receive a bigger number of customers and manage to sell goods that would have taken more than a month during other months of the year.
“I have run out of stock in the past 1 week, and this is not something that happens on a normal day or in between other months. I am happy with the number of customers who buy from me. I believe that this is because some hotels in the market have closed for the December celebrations," said Jackson Okumu, a hawker at Laini Saba area.
“I sell food items such as chips, ripe bananas, biscuits, sweets, snacks and avocado. I have benefited most since this month started; i even wish that all months were like December," said Vivian Okoth, another hawker.
“The hawking business has turned out to be a successful business. I depend on it since it has enabled me to feed myself and my child. I have no plans of quitting this business; I have plans to expand it to a bigger business," added Vivian.
