Traders at Laini Saba market in Kibera have decried delayed garbage collection by the relevant authorities.

The traders are worried that their business environment is worsening with uncollected garbage in the market for over two months now.

“In the previous days, no one has been seen coming to collect garbage we’re now dealing with unpleasant smells that is slowly driving customers away,’’ said Edina Kosgei, a trader.

Ms Kosgei said that in the last two months, she has been making low sales since she is just next to the uncollected garbage.

“I sell vegetables but due to unpleasant smell and uncollected garbage near my business place, my customers have kept off. I wish to ask the concerned authority in the market to collect the garbage,” she pleaded.

“Dirty business environment has attracted birds, flies and other animals that come to the uncollected garbage site to feast. This has made the environment hostile indeed for us traders,’’said Ann Nzioki, another trader.

"As traders, we are going to stop paying taxes until the garbage is collected,’’ said Jared, a fruit vendor.
