Kibera MP, Ken Okoth has handed out cheques worth sh50 million from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) towards development projects and bursaries for bright, needy students in the area.

Okoth flanked by the CDF account manager, Paul Onyango and local leaders stated that out of the amount, sh40 million was for development projects while sh10 million is for the bursary.

Addressing residents at DC office in anticipation of the cheques, the legislator took up issues with a section of project management committees (PMCs) for allegedly using the funds to restock their shops. He wondered why the civil society was pushing for the recall clause for over 70% of MPs, who they accuse of misappropriating CDF.

Okoth quickly added that he was sure Kibera will be ranked among the top performing constituencies, saying the civil societies can push for the recall clause, arguing that his CDF management team has been rated highly. He, however, warned that PMC members found culpable of embezzling CDF monies that they would be prosecuted, pointing out that in some schools not even a classroom has been completed yet they received CDF cheques and took as long as six months to bank them.

“Long before the national government adopted the 30% policy going to benefit the youth, women and people with disabilities in Kibera had already started implementing this and currently a whopping sh13 million will benefit this group,” he revealed.
