Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has been applauded by a section of Kibera residents.

The residents applauded the governor for his efforts in planting grass in bare land in the city centre and its environs. The grass which was nick named ‘Kidero grass’ was planted in July last year.

Many people in Nairobi thought the move was to fool the US president Barrack Obama as to how Nairobi is beautiful. Some criticised the exercise after the grass started drying up. However, after months of struggling to irrigate the grass, it germinated and given a beautiful view of the Nairobi City as seen on Uhuru Highway. This has seen the governor win The Best Landscaping Project Award at this year’s Architectural Association of Kenya Excellence Awards.

Vivian Cheruyiot said Kidero had tried since beautiful places will always attract tourists. She said the beautification of the Nairobi Central Business Centre will enable the county government to attract investors who will want to work in a beautiful place.

Moses Kulei also said beauty shows how attractive a place is, therefore, this will help improve the economy of the county since it will attract tourists.
