Kibera residents have a reason to smile due to the ongoing street lighting project that in the slum.
According to the residents, the project will really help them curb insecurity that has been on the rise in the past years.
''The insecurity in the area is on a high the setting up of these lights will help those walking at night from work or their daily hassle,'' said Chief Mutai Okoth of Sarang’ombe location in Kibera.
The project was launched by President Kenyatta in January 2015 under the slum upgrading initiative.
While all these projects have mostly been positively received, slum residents seem to be especially pleased with the street lighting project as it instantly boosts security and in turn drastically improves living conditions.
''I personally used to make a profit of sh500 per day in selling fruits but since the installation of the lights. I have been able to make sh1, 200 per day which is more than double what I used to make before,'' said Jack Ogwayo, a fruit vendor at the Olympic stage.
