The death of the former first lady, Lucy Kibaki shocked residents in Kibera as messages of condolences flowed.
Lucy Kibaki who is the former wife to former President Mwai Kibaki succumbed to death on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at a London Hospital.
Residents of Kibera have mourned the former first lady as a woman who was always at the forefront in the fight for development in the country during the Kibaki’s government.
"It is a big blow for the country to lose such an able woman who could have changed the lives of many. I am saddened by her death and I pray she rests in peace," said Miriam Onkundi, a resident.
Jennifer Okoth said that it is a huge loss to Kenyans and it is time we emulate her peaceful co-existence approach and promote integration amongst us.
Philip Omar, another resident said that it is a setback to Kenyans because she was an institutional memory to the country as she fought too much development during the PNU government.
"I laud her contributions towards initiating peace and development in the country during the PNU regime. She was a blessing to us and my wish is that her death unites all Kenyans and our leaders who are fighting for leadership. My condolences to the family and Kenyans for losing such good mother,” Omar said.
