A group of Kibera women have expressed their anger over the rising number of defilement cases and sexual abuse in the area.

Speaking on Tuesday afternoon at Olympic, the women said the government is being too lenient on men who have been reported to have either raped or sexually assaulted a woman or a minor.

‘‘The government is trying but I don’t think the effort it has taken to fight defilement is the best. Sometimes, you get the defiler walking scot free,’’ said Anne Kagia, one of the ladies.

Ms Kagia said doing so allows the defiler to continue the habit.

‘‘Let us stand up as women and try save our young children. Let us advocate for life imprisonment of the rapists,’’ she advised.

Another woman, Christine Atieno said it is possible that some Kibera children could be victims of defilement but fear talking openly about it.

‘‘You can tell from how a child behaves. Some really like speaking about sexual relationships. I can’t say that they have watched on television. I think they either practice or have ever been defiled,’’ said Atieno.
