Police in Kisumu have found a university student who was kidnapped last week on Friday.
Mercy Awuor, 20, a first year Project Planning and Management student was abandoned by unknown people at Boyani in Vihiga County.
Awuor, according to the police boarded a vehicle to Kisumu after she was dumped next to the road at Boyani along Kisumu-Kakamega road on Thursday.
She is admitted at Avenue Hospital in Kisumu town for medical examination.
Awuor, a student at the University of Nairobi was kidnapped at the tuktuk stage next to Palmers Hotel on her way home in Nyalenda.
“The only thing I remember is that when I boarded a tuktuk for home I found four people inside it,” she said.
Awuor said when she woke up she found herself inside a house made of timber in an unknown place.
She was kidnapped last week minutes after she left classes at the University of Nairobi Kisumu campus.
The kidnappers used Awuor’s mobile phone to tell her parents they had taken her away.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Joseph Keitany said a suspect has been arrested and is being interrogated.
Keitany said the suspect had sent a text message to the girls’ father seeking to meet him over the kidnap.
“The suspect later declined to meet the girl’s father prompting his arrest,” Keitany said on the phone on Sunday.
Police barred journalists from talking to the girl until medical examinations are done.
