An MP from Nakuru County wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission commissioners to leave office once their term expires in November 2017.
Naivasha MP John Kihagi said the IEBC chairman Isaac Hassan is on point in negating an extension as fronted by the leader of majority in Parliament Aden Duale.
Speaking in his constituency Thursday, Kihagi observed that once the commissioners leave office, new officials should be appointed without any fear.
“I support Hassan in his decision to leave office as soon as the tenure enshrined in the constitution expires so that we can have new people in office,” he stated.
He also dispelled claims that with the current officials leaving office, they would create a vacuum.
“There is no vacuum that will be created by the exit of the current office bearers because I am certain there will be no run-off. This time round, Jubilee will hit it the first time so there is no cause for alarm,” he said.
He also added that he supports to have the general election slated for August, next year.
