Kikuyu sub-county deputy commissioner Paul Famba has assured residents of their security following a series of criminal acts in the area.

The deputy county commissioner said police have intensified security and patrols in the area and its environs.

Famba added that police have mapped out areas perceived to be criminals dens and that they will flush out the criminals immediately.

“We want to assure residents that their security is guaranteed as we head to the festive season,” said Famba when he addressed members of the public at Kikuyu town on Thursday.

Famba said more police will be deployed across the sub-county ahead of the festive season and urged locals to work with security officers.

The Kikuyu deputy commissioner said security will be realised if the public willingly works with the police.

He observed that criminals causing havoc are among the locals and that it is the responsibility of the residents to expose them out.

Famba on the same note warned youths against engaging in crime.

“Young people should keep off crime and instead take part in activities that will promote their lives,” he added.

There have been security concerns in Kikuyu and its environs with businessmen and locals decrying existence of criminal gangs terrorising them.

Two weeks ago, a taxi operator was found murdered at Gitaru bus stage in Kikuyu.

The operator is said to have been attacked and killed by people posing as customers. Police are still investigating the matter.
