Kikuyu OCS Birgen Kiptoo has asked chiefs in the area to intensify the crackdown on illicit brews this festive season.

Speaking at Kikuyu Town on Monday, the OCS said that some brewers could be tempted to take advantage of approaching festive season to start brewing illicit brews.

He said that chiefs will have to put up more efforts and curb the making and selling of illicit brews in the area. He noted claims that brewers in some areas within the sub-county had re-started the illicit brew business.

“Our appeal is to chiefs and other local administrators to remain alert and deal with people who will be tempted to start brewing and selling of illicit  brews,” he said.

The OCS said that cases of brewing had gone down drastically since the campaign that was conducted to flush out brewers three months ago.

Kiptoo at the same time warned youths against indulging in drinking behaviour. He observed that some youths might be tempted to drink during the festive season.

Kiptoo said that police will not hesitate to arrest alcohol drinkers who cause a public nuisance.
