Nakuru County Director of Youth Affairs and Vocational Training Josphat Kimemia, has called on the youth from all the 11 sub counties in Nakuru, to turn out for consultative meetings once they are announced.

Kimemia has also called on the youth to make good use of Polytechnics and become employers rather than staying at home.

Speaking to young men and women who attended a training on government procurement processes and borrowing sponsored by Kenya Young Parliamentarian Association (KYPA) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) on Thursday, he said that the county government is in the process of formulating a youth policy that will give the directorate of youth affairs a legal basis when demanding funds from the county government.

According Kimemia, the current constitution is not clear on who between the County Government and National Government should manage youth affairs especially when it comes to issues relating on funds.

There is a big gap and challenge because the youth are unable to claim what they need due to legal implication challenges. There so may requirements the youth have to undergo when it comes to employment, procurement, resource mobilization and also sharing the county cake. They lack legal capacity to claim the same.

Youth who attended the training welcomed the move but challenged government departments and corporations to ensure prompt payment for supplied goods and services.
