Residents of Kinungi centre on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Wednesday threatened to block the highway with coffins if the National Transport and Safety Authority will not erect speed bumps as promised.
The residents accused the authority of giving them false promises and issued a two-week ultimatum to start business failure to which they will parade caskets.
Led by the area MCA Samuel Waithuki, they claimed they were fed up with constant accidents occurring in the area, and urged NTSA to move faster and salvage the situation.
"It is very disturbing that a whole month since the NTSA vowed to erect speed bumps here, no action has been taken and yet people continue to perish here.We will not relent on the push to have speed bumps erected because we cannot continue to witness accidents here," Waithuki said.
He further added that two more lives had been lost since the authority made a promise and urged the officials to expedite the process so as to save lives.
The authority had earlier promised to have the bumps erected at the accident-prone centre in the first week of December last year but only ended up erecting speed lights instead which according to the residents has not helped much.
