National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) chairperson Lee Kinyanjui has called on police in Nakuru to intensify patrols on the county's major highways to ensure motorists adhere to the law.
Speaking after he attended a funds drive for ailing Maendeleo ya Wanawake Nakuru chapter char lady Keziah Ngina who was involved in a serious road accident three months ago, the NTSA boss faulted the police for allowing unscrupulous motorists on the road.
This, he said, is the cause of many accidents.
He regretted the fact that Nakuru has witnessed a series of accidents in 2016.
"We want Nakuru to be among the safest places in the county and this will only be achieved if our police stopped taking bribes," Kinyanjui said.
He expressed the authority's commitment in bringing sanity on Kenyan roads.
"Your safety is our concern but we will achieve this only if all of us played our part. Don't leave everything to us because you are the ones who break the law," he said.
The most recent case involved five teenagers on new year's day near Salgaa with none amongst them having a valid driving license.
