Nairobi city businessman Chris Kirubi has challenged politicians named in the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal to resign from their respective positions and pave way for in-depth investigations.
The NYS scandals has rocked the nation for a number of months now and recently, former Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru named National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen as persons of interest in the scam.
Speaking at Kisii on Saturday, Kirubi said the leaders would set a bad precedence in fight against corruption if they failed to resign.
“The issue of NYS has dominated our country for a long time. Time has come for those who have been mentioned to take responsibility and resign," uttered Kirubi.
"It’s sad that top leaders are being mentioned yet they should be role models in our society. They will set a bad precedence in the fight against corruption if they will not resign,” he added.
The Businessman cautioned political parties against shielding corruption suspects and urged the suspects to face agencies responsible for fighting corruption to clear their names.
“It’s my honest advice to Duale and Murkomen to desist from dragging political leadership to their woes," implored Kirubi.
"They are learned and knows that the fight against corruption can be realised if they tackle the matter without seeking help from their political parties,” Kirubi added.
The businessman challenged Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the NYS matter expeditiously and help recover the money that was lost.
“We have heard so many people mentioned and this means money was in deed lost. EACC should investigate and recommend prosecution to those involved so that we can recover the money," Said Kirubi.
"But the political elites mentioned in the scam should resign and set good precedence in the fight against corruption,” he added.
