Organizers of Gusii All Stars Awards which were held on Saturday at Kisii social hall have been lauded for initiating the program that will see personalities who have excelled in a number of fields duly rewarded.
The inaugural awards saw over fifty people and groups from Nyamira and Kisii counties rewarded in different categories by the organizers.
Speaking during the event, Kisii county government’s representative Mr. Obina Nyambane said the program was just but the beginning of a long journey of appreciating individual and group efforts a part from giving an avenue for rising stars to shine globally.
“I want to take this moment on behalf of county government of Kisii to laud the organizers for coming up with the wonderful idea. This means our stars will feel appreciated and will do more to our people. Some will take this as an opening chapter to start shining nationally and internationally,” he said.
Nyamira County’s representative Peter Mochache urged the organizers to be holding the ceremonies which will be annual henceforth at Gusii stadium to allow area residents interact with personalities who have changed their lives in different ways.
“From now henceforth, I suggest that we hold the ceremony at Kisii stadium so that winners interact with a number of residents. Otherwise, it’s a huge event and I want to assure organizers that the county government will be very keen to sponsor the event,” he said.
Mr. Erick Ombwori who was among the chief organizer said a number of winners will get a chance visit oversees counties in future to interact with the rest of the world.
“We thought that this will be a good avenue to help emerging talents and other who has been in their respective fields interacts with a wide audience. We are thinking of supporting some of the winner’s especially young musicians, DJs and choirs to visit abroad and have a chance to perform among the international audiences,” he said.
Among the categories awarded were, best reporters (Radio and newspapers), best choirs, best DJs, best musicians among others.
