Gusii politician has asked the Kisii county government to introduce sex education in schools so as to curb the issue of early pregnancies and marriages in the region.

While addressing the public on Wednesday morning in Gesusu ward of Kisii County, Benard Moseti Nyamoko has said the only way to make our young girls realize their potential in changing our community is through the introduction of sex education in the curriculum so as to sensitize and mould the youths for a better future at a tender age.

"let the government introduce the sex education in schools so as to let our young children understand themselves better as they grow up to make better generations," Moseti said

He says the issue of mutilating girls should be done away with once and for all and that the government's effort to eradicate this culture should be taken positively by all the Kenyan communities.

While the Kisii and Nyamira counties are currently undertaking the anti-female genital mutilation campaigns seriously lead by the anti-FGM body's chair Hon Linah Kilimo, other counties and communities have been asked to fall suit to help curb the culture.

The Kisii county director of culture, Mr Obino Nyambane also lauded the message saying early communities never had the culture of FGM but did circumcision of boys which the government supports.

"As much as we hold on to some culture, we do discourage some practices that deny our girls peace of mind and a great future as women of substance in the world," Mr Nyambane said while addressing the public.
