The county government of Kisii is keen to give a chance to local investors to the region as it prepares to host the first entrepreneur summit later on in February, Governor James Ongwae has said.

Speaking during a morning interview at K24 TV on Tuesday, ongwae said that local investors had contributed positively since the inauguration of county units leading to increased business activities in the county that has seen the region take a 60% control of CBK commercial indices in Nyanza region.

He said that the county would donate land to local investors from the country to boost business activities in the region that will lead to employment of youths.

“As a county government, we are happy with the contribution of the local investors. Many of them have been part of the group that has commenced huge investments in the county. We are ready as a county to donate free land to some of them so that they can bring more businesses in the region that will lead to employment of our youths,” he said.

He urged the investors to share their interest with the county government before the county extended their hand to international investors.

“Kenyans understand that Kisii county is one of the leading business centers and our local investors should take the opportunity to share with the leadership. We also have many international investors who have expressed their willingness to invest in agribusiness, farming and even launching of industries but we are keen to give chances to local investors," Ongwae added.

On the closure of Kisii University satellite campuses, Ongwae urged the commission to review the decision since they did not involve many stakeholders.

“The repercussion of closure is only shared to stakeholders like county governments. The commission should review the decision and involve stakeholders in future decision making processes. We are talking of 15, 000 students whose future is unknown and 400 staff who risks losing their job,” he said.
