The election of new Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials has been welcomed by a number of football fans from Kisii region with a majority calling for investments in the game at its grassroots to promote upcoming talents.
On Wednesday, 77 delegates chose new officials that saw Nick Mwendwa trounce four other competitors to clinch the lucrative presidential seat and Doris Petra elected as his vice President.
The fans led by Mose Machuka, hailed the smooth transition and challenged them to invest in grassroots football by coming up with structured leagues that will see consistency in the promotion of teams.
''As Kisii fans, we want to laud the outgoing officials led by Sam Nyamweya for a successful transition. It’s our wish that the new management invests in grassroots football by helping local clubs to prosper through the funds given by FIFA,'' he said.
They also urged the new officials to focus on improving the infrastructure in the Kenyan clubs at all levels to make the league competitive and called for the wiping out of corruption in the federation.
''The new officials should ensure they improve infrastructures and all clubs participating in different levels. This will improve our leagues and put us in the standard of developed counties,'' Machuka added.
Mwendwa replaces Sam Nyamweya in the FKF presidency after the octogenarian bowed out of the race in last minutes after four years as FKF president. Mwendwa beat Gor Mahia chairman, Ambrose Rachier, by 23 votes.
