Kisii governor, James Ongwae has challenged Kisii residents to embrace cottage industries to create employment opportunities and fight rural poverty in the region.
Ongwae underscored the importance of cottage industries in creating job opportunities for women and youth to economically empower themselves and transform their living standards.
Speaking on Friday evening at Kisii University during the Kisii Entrepreneurship Summit, Ongwae said the developed economies had the history of tapping onto the potential of cottage industries to transform themselves into competitive economies.
"As a county government, we are set to create an enabling investment environment for both local and external investors with emphasis on cottage industries which have the potential of transforming this region into a competitive economic and investment hub," stated Ongwae.
He tipped local investors on the potential of cottage industries challenging them to exploit the potential for their benefit as part of the efforts to create investment opportunities and wealth to spur economic growth in the region.
