Kisii County deputy governor Joash Maangi claims that ODM is a dwindling party, days after leading a delegation of 3,000 people from the Gusii region to the home of Deputy President William Ruto.
Mr Maangi, however, said on Tuesday that he is in the opposition party to stay.
Speaking at Egesa FM’s breakfast show, the Kisii County deputy leader dared the the party, which sponsored him during the last general elections, to fire him if the ODM leaders felt they are popular in Kisii.
“If ODM have the numbers in Kisii, I dare them to fire me,” Maangi said.
Maangi, a close ally of Ruto, said that ‘Kisii is not an ODM zone’.
Some members of the delegation have refuted claims that they received bribes from the deputy president, saying each one of them only got Sh2,000 to use as fare back to their homes.
Mr Ruto has in the recent days also met with leaders of Western Kenya, in a move seen as hunting for support in regions that have traditionally been regarded as strongholds of Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
