Expectant mothers in Kitutu Central ward, Kisii County are at risk when delivering at night due to the lack of health services in the area.

Mwamogesa dispensary in Kitutu Chache South Sub County, meant to decongest Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital and Oresi health facility, was located in a catchment area of an estimated 5,000 people. The women and residents have expressed outrage over the incomplete health project undertaken by the national government and whose construction started 13 years ago.

Promises from the area legislator, Momoima Onyonka and the residents’ petition to the county government appeared to bear no fruit. The irate residents chased away the CDF chairman from the project site after witnessing some workers use poor materials for pillars to construct a retention wall.

Geofrey Tinega, the chairman of the dormant health facility committee petitioned the national government to hand over the project to the county government if the residents were to benefit. He decried the shoddy job done at the health facility and non-engagement of the local people for casual work at the project.

A woman stakeholder complained of the suffering of expectant women who lacked healthcare and roads. She demanded the completion of the project through the resolution of the ownership dispute between the two levels of government.

Another resident accused the area elected leaders of neglecting them and condoning corruption in the project.
