Residents of Kisii town have a reason to smile after the county leadership announced its intention to partner with network provider Global Data and Liquid Telecom to provide free Wi-Fi in the town and its suburbs.
County Governor James Ongwae made the announcement in his official Facebook page on Thursday when he visited the company’s headquarters in Sameer Park Nairobi.
According to Mr. Ongwae, the internet connectivity will promote growth of businesses in the town.
“Internet connectivity is vital in promoting growth of business. The world is swiftly moving to the digital era and as a county we don’t want to be left behind. We want business operators in the telecommunication industry to seize the opportunity and make good use of the connectivity,” read the statement.
Mr. Ongwae hailed the company for volunteering to provide the connectivity during the Kisii Entrepreneurial Summit to be held later on in February and said that he was keen to sign a two year contract with them.
“We are glad that this firm has accepted to support us during the entrepreneurial summit. As a county, we will ensure that the town is provided with free WiFi for the next two years as we look forward to work with the firm,” Ongwae added in the statement.
The firm’s chief commercial officer Mr. Paul Stratham is set to give a keynote address on the power of connectivity in promotion of business during the summit.
