Speaking on Tuesday at the university's main campus, the chairperson of the Election Appeals Committee, Prof Maurice Amutabi, said that the results of an earlier election had been nullified and that there will be a re-election.

An appeal had been filed against the results of the students' election held at all the campuses on November 6 this year.

After a thorough scrutiny by the appeals committee, it was decided that Nairobi campus holds a fresh election.

"The appeal from Nairobi campus was based on 6 grounds. After sitting down as a committee, we decided that the results be nullified and a by-election be held," said Amutabi.

Other petitions by unsatisfied contestants were not upheld for lack of grounds for appeal and also insufficient details.

According to Prof Amutabi, the official date for the fresh election will be announced later.

The assistant Dean of Students, Francis Kerongo, urged those whose petitions did not go through to remain calm and avoid negative speeches.

"Do not make sentiments that anyone might misuse or misquote, leadership is not about the title but about who you are," he said.
