Kisii residents have been challenged to enroll their children at local institutes and polytechnics to enable them acquire technical skills for their prosperity.
Speaking on Wednesday at Keroka Technical Training College (KTTI), the institute's principal Evans Bosire and Ichuni ward representative Francis Aburi wondered why locals preferred the foreign institutes to local ones.
They appealed to the youths in the area to take advantage of various artisan and technical courses offered in the institution to equip them with knowledge for self-reliance.
“It's worrying that our people overlook our local institutions and instead go to enroll in institutes or polytechnics outside Kisii. It's not a bad thing but we must make good use of our local institutions,” said Bosire.
“I ask my area residents more especially the youth to take advantage of our local institutions to get technical knowledge. This will reduce poverty in our area through utilization of the knowledge acquired from training,” Aburi said.
This comes a few days later after Nyaribari Masaba MP Elijah Moindi challenged the area youths to avoid waiting for handouts and instead enroll in technical courses for self-reliance.
