Kisumu County has appeared among the top 10 counties that registered the highest number of voters in the first week of the exercise run by IEBC.
Despite the low turnout in the first week, Coalition for Reforms and Democracy strongholds dominated the list of regions that have recorded highest number of new voters of the population with IDs but not registered as at December 2015.
This was according to the commission’s first weekly progress report of the exercise for the week that started on February 15 and ended on Sunday, 21 February 2016.
In a statement filed to newsrooms, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chief Executive officer Ezra Chiloba said among the top 10 performers was Siaya having achieved 60 per cent of its first week target and was second after Kajiado that surpassed its target recording 118 per cent voter turnout.
Migori and Homa Bay tied in the third position having achieved 43 per cent with Kisumu recording 38 per cent at position six.
Kiambu, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Marsabit was position seven, eight, nine and 10 respectively.
“The numbers however, were not pleasing in regards to population with IDs not registered as at December 2015 with Nairobi City County leading having achieved a target of 23 per cent in the first week,” said Chiloba.
But also in this category CORD counties took the largest share of the top 10, with Kisumu, Siaya, Kakamega, Migori and Homa Bay appearing in the top 10 alongside Nairobi.
