The chairperson of the Kenya Medical Training College Board Prof Philip Kaloki announced on Saturday that the KMTC Kangundo branch will be opened early 2016.
Speaking while inspecting construction works for the KMTC Kangundo branch in Kangundo, Kaloki said the country has a deficit of about 63,000 medical personnel.
He said the country's medical sector faces personnel challenges as medical practitioners leave the country for greener pastures oversees.
He said that the ongoing expansion of training facilities throughout the country is expected to substantially bridge the deficit and ensure more Kenyans get access to better healthcare which is a constitutional right.
Kangundo MP Kyengo Maweu who initiated the establishment of the institution through CDF said it would not be fair if the local residents do not benefit from the institution where he asked the government to ensure that at least 30 per cent of the local youth secure opportunities to pursue their medical careers at the institution once it opens its doors to the public.
"This project is mostly for the good of Kangundo residents and it would be unfair if we would be having such an institution and youth from here miss the opportunity to benefit from it," said Maweu.
