The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) plans to lobby the National Assembly to pass a private sector corruption Bill.

KNCCI national chairman Kiprono Kittony said the Bill will deal with corruption that is rife in the private sector.

Kittony said Kenyans have been pre-occupied with corruption in government forgetting the private sector.

“We have found out that most business people in the private sector engage in corrupt deals with the public officers,” he said.

He put corrupt business people on notice noting that once the Bill is in place, those found engaging in corruption will be deregistered from the chamber.

Speaking in Kisumu on Friday night during a business cocktail party sponsored by the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA), Kittony said corruption in the country must be fought from all corners.

“All Kenyans must now stand up and denounce corruption,” he said.

He called upon counties to ensure that those intending to do tender businesses with them to get registered with the chamber.

The chairman said the chamber will then be at a position to deal with errant business people in the counties.

“I want to appeal to our governors to make it mandatory that those applying for tenders must be members of the chamber, so that we can scrutinise them as a way of fighting the graft,” he said.

He further announced that the chamber is introducing the signing of integrity charter aimed at taming corruption in the private sector.
