The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) chairman Kabiru Kinyanjui has hit out at the government saying it was not providing adequate funding for research into the education sector.
Kinyanjui said this had affected learning institutions whose quality of data produced was greatly challenged.
Speaking during the opening of a two-day workshop at Merica Hotel in Nakuru on Tuesday, Kinyanjui added that proper research would enable the government produce a well rounded and sharp student
He challenged policy makers to appreciate the work of researchers to help the country realise vision 2030, saying they played an important role into the spearheading of the country’s ambition
Kinyanjui also accused a section of the universities of giving the government wrong data and research to be allocated more money.
“They often give reports favouring the people who gave them the tender which might not always be true,” he added.
He pointed out that it was important for the 68 varsities to come together and compile a well researched data which will help in having a good education at in all learning institution.
Kinyanjui also said the country is not producing a lot of students with PHD since the varsity education has not been well researched.
