The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has urged teachers in Kericho to vote for the KANU candidate, Paul Sang in the Monday by-elections.
The KNUT chair, Wilson Sossion called on all Kericho County teachers to come out in large numbers to support one of their own. He will be vying for the senate seat in the county.
According to reports, more than 500 teachers met at Kericho Teachers’ College and made up their minds to support Sang. The meeting was also attended by KNUT chair Wilson Sossion.
Session advised teachers to vote against the Jubilee party candidate saying the party has endured suffering in the hands of the Jubilee government which frustrates teachers. He assured teachers that if Sang wins, they will see a positive change in their salaries.
‘‘If Sang wins we will get our 50-60% pay hike by Wednesday, next week. We should support him, he is one of us,’’ said Sossion.
He, however, said he is not fighting the government and neither are teachers but what they want to show the government is that they are tired of being frustrated.
Grace Disiko, a teacher from Kibera said it is true that only Sang can save teachers in the region since he has been a teacher and understands their problems better.
