It has emerged that Garissa teachers who braved through the trying times of regional insecurity during Garissa University attack and subsequent Al-Shabaab attacks in the county will be rewarded for their professional commitment.
This emerged on Wednesday during the celebrations that marked the World Teachers' day in the county.
Speaking during the function, Knut chairperson Garissa branch Huusien Dubat said all teachers in the county would be rewarded in a special way as a show of appreciation for their dedication to teach the local children.
Dubat's sentiments were also echoed by an aspiring Garissa politician Fatuma Kinsi, who acknowledged the roles played by teachers in eradicating ignorance across the region where illiteracy levels are still high.
Teachers present at the function expressed their dissatisfaction, saying their employer had failed to recognize their special assignments in the hardship zones.
The educators said they had nothing to celebrate as their pay has remained the same over the years.
