Masaba KNUT branch has welcomed the directive by Teachers Service Commission to school heads over releasing of KNEC certificates to former students.

TSC had issued an order to all school heads demanding that students whose certificates where detained due to lack of school fee to be issued with the vital documents unconditionally by end of the month.

The decision has been applauded branch secretary general Meshack Ombong’i and his deputy James Oteki, who termed is a ‘huge relieve’ to children from underprivileged backgrounds.

“As a teacher, I have seen very bright students being unable to collect their certificates due to huge amounts they owe their respective schools. This directive is timely and a huge relieve to thousands of students across the country,” Ombong’i said.

Mr Oteki hailed the decision and urged school heads to comply for the sake of reviving lost dreams of the victims. He also urged the government to assist affected institutions by clearing the fee owed by the victims.

“I think it’s unfair to detain crucial documents of innocent children. It’s my plea that the school heads shall respect the decision because this isn’t the first time the directive is being issued. I also call upon the government to pay the affected schools so that management can also settle huge debts they owe suppliers of various items,” he said.

The two were speaking at Keroka town on Wednesday during the final day of campaigns ahead of Thursday’s branch elections.KNUT,
