Through the programme, six substations will be built in different parts of the county.

The substation is designed to minimize power outages and also meet the increasing market demand.

Erick Ohaga, KP Kisumu County business manager has said that two facilities have already been completed at Kibos and Ahero. The two stations are already in service.

Ohaga who was speaking at the Kisumu county service delivery committee meeting on Thursday said that through the programme, KP seeks to build four more sub-stations and also replace all wooden electricity poles with concrete ones with the aim of cutting on costs.

Ohaga also clarified on the contentious street lighting project where politicians had taken credit for the initiative something which is not the case.

“The street lighting project is a partnership between KP and the Kisumu County government, where we are acting as the implementing agency,” said Ohaga.

Ohaga also added that the street lighting project had stalled due to lack of the necessary materials which are yet to be imported.

The street lighting programme which has already been implemented in Kondele and Migosi areas will resume next month.

The next phase will see Mamboleo, Makasembo, Nyalnda and Maseno University benefit from the Sh200 million project.
